About this show

Where did it all go wrong? Well, it depends who you ask. Close friends Oscar and Ela navigate the fallout of a drunken sexual encounter as their conflicting versions of events are replayed, rewound and re-written against the sensory medley of a wild night out. Olivier and Tony nominated Carrie-Anne Ingrouille (SIX the Musical) directs the world premiere of this anti-romcom and 'fascinating exploration' (Daniel Finkelstein, The Times) of the greyest areas of consent and sexual politics.

What the reviewers said

We have captured 6 published reviews and 26 audience reviews for this show from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s own listing. The excerpts below are the reviewers’ words, not ours — follow each link for the full review.

  • 4.5 Stars Some welcome light relief comes courtesy of Ella’s pet tarantula, whose appearances prompted wonderfully audible cringes from the audience.

    one4review

  • A knotty, intense exploration of a drunken fumble between friends. We Had Fun is a powerful and important piece of theatre: an unflinching, courageous portrayal of an issue that feels particularly relevant right now.

A Youngish Perspective (4 out of 5 stars)

  • It will certainly make you think, offering a human lens on an issue that feels wholly grounded in real-world experience, laid out on stage for the audience to engage with.
