About this show
Franziska Heck (Edinburgh Napier University) takes a critical look at robot companionship through media narratives, emerging AI products and ongoing research. As engagement is engineered and companionship comes at a price, she questions what we are building and who benefits from it. Professor Chris Cummins (The University of Edinburgh) asks whether linguistics can do anything to benefit the critically ill. Or indeed anybody.

- Venue notes: Accessible entry: Stand 4 is accessible from the pavement with steps leading to a courtyard. The venue is situated in the basement part of the building. There are 15 steps in total with a 90 degree turn on a stone staircase with handrails. Once inside the venue, it is level access to stand 4 with a right turn. Staff are always available to assist, however we cannot help to carry customers. Stairs: 11- 20 Number of stairs is provided as guidance and is not in addition to any wheelchair access type (lift/ramp etc) stated above.
