About this show

A wicked, gin-soaked dark comedy set on a stormy Edinburgh Hogmanay. Belinda Crabbs’ husband disappears, leaving behind police tape and three decades of marital fatigue. Enter Barbara, the cleaner with forensic instincts and impeccable timing. What follows is a razor-sharp dismantling of marriage, class and sex. Delivered with biting one-liners and delicious cruelty. Female rage detonates. Widowhood, it turns out, can be an upgrade and menopause absolute murder. From the multi award-winning writer of Sex, Chips & Ouzo, Glasgow Hard Tickets, Death of a Playboy, The Devil Wears Primark. 'A rip-roaring delight!' (Independent). 'Brilliant' (Scotsman).

What the reviewers said

We have captured 4 published reviews and 54 audience reviews for this show from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s own listing. The excerpts below are the reviewers’ words, not ours — follow each link for the full review.

  • A well-pitched script and strong central performances propel this complex, cathartic script about hot flushes, social class and murder.

The List (4 out of 5 stars)

  • This is a belter of a show with fantastic writing and a brilliant cast with a flawless back and forth. It’s so good, and a study in raw female midlife rage. I was looking for a Scottish production and this was perfect.

    Pillow Talk

  • Kathleen Ruddy’s The Cut of Her Jib is a brisk and entertaining dark comedy that combines a missing-husband mystery with sharp observations about marriage, relationships and female independence.
