About this show

Hotly-tipped young choreographer Lai Yun-Chi (formerly a dancer with Shechter II and a member of Humanhood) is keen to uncover what lies beneath our layered personalities – the roles we play, the identities we choose, the faces we wear. Drawing upon ceremonial folk rituals, a battery of cross-cultural movement styles and practices and a family history of leathercraft, she and her company Mailantia present the UK premiere of a bold, intricate and brand-new steampunk-influenced quartet about concealment and transformation. Expect a unique and original mix of East-West sensibilities.

  • Wooden martial arts poles, incense sticks and long bird feathers are used as props in this intense, impressive work from the Mailantia Dance Company, choreographed by Lai Yun-Chi.

The List (4 out of 5 stars)

  • A bold performance that beautifully marries its themes of self; those we inherit and those we create. A brilliant way to open my Fringe season.

Scottish Field (4 out of 5 stars)
