About this show
Billy Mason, a working class lad done good and now tycoon of the bar snack industry, visits his soon-to-be pop star daughter, Mariella, at a strange hotel where she is dreaming up her debut album. Hopes of celebration and champagne collide with industry collapse, failing health and the looming steps of a god-like label exec which threatens to force them apart. Father and daughter are left asking: ‘What now?’, as songs, suspicion and surreal turns collide in this exploration of ambition and familial love.

Accessibility
- Venue notes: Accessible entry: Stair-lift with folding seat to from foyer (requires transfer from wheelchair to stair-lift chair at ground level, then transfer back to wheelchair at first floor). Staff can carry an unoccupied small or folding manual wheelchair up the stairs while the wheelchair user uses the seated stair lift. Electric wheelchairs, heavy wheelchairs and bulky wheelchairs cannot be carried upstairs. If not taking the stair lift, the space is accessed by two half flights of stairs (handrail on one side). Stairs: 11- 20 Number of stairs is provided as guidance and is not in addition to any wheelchair access type (lift/ramp etc) stated above.

In a charming makeshift venue beside Edinburgh Castle, I Dreamt You Differently is an intimate two-hander between a father who made his fortune selling beer mats and a daughter trying to make hers as a pop star.

Abbey Gillett plays Mariella Mason, a creative in a tough spot. She has the talent but cannot find her breakthrough. It is a wonderful portrayal that speaks truth to the struggles of many performers trying to “make it”.
