About this show

This foreigner hopes his genius performance gets him naturalised or deported. A dizzying solo that refuses to explain Sohrab's experience as an Iranian asylum seeker. A paradoxical autobiographical anti-identity, anti-comedy clown show inspired by Rumi's call to kill yourself. 'Unconventional. Undismissable. Unforgettable' (Plays Unpleasant). Co-created by Koan Brothers (Sohrab Haghverdi, Benjamin and Mason Rosenthal). Support from Cannonball and the Ed Tyler Touring Fund. Mason Rosenthal is a founding member of Lightning Rod Special, the company behind Underground Railroad Game (Edinburgh Fringe First and Edinburgh Stage Awards) and a 2026 Creative Capital Awardee. 2026 'Must-See Theatre' (Guardian).

What the reviewers said

We have captured 5 published reviews and 26 audience reviews for this show from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s own listing. The excerpts below are the reviewers’ words, not ours — follow each link for the full review.

  • FORIEGNER (sic) takes the audience’s need to laugh and show their approval of the performer and filters it through a blender of live art chaos, complicated politics and the performativity of autobiographical identity…

Fest Mag (4 out of 5 stars)

  • Foriegner is an unforgettable piece, if unpleasant. It feels more like performance art than clown, and certainly has a lot of passion within it.

Binge Fringe (4 out of 5 stars)

  • Pitched as an ‘anti-identity, anti-comedy’ show, Sohrab Haghverdi’s unruly and unrestrained hour defies any and all expectations.

The List (4 out of 5 stars)
