About this show

I say! There's been a murder! The Famous Five grew up and grew apart. When Dick, now a hardened PI, gets in over his head, he turns to his sister Anne for help. Do they have what it takes to solve the crime? A British film noir, full of gangsters, intrigue and lashings of tinned pineapple. Nominated for the Funny Women Awards. With additional voices by Alistair McGowan. Supported by Fenton Arts Trust and Barnsley Civic. Rachel E Thorn writes for BBC Radio (Dead Ringers, The Now Show). She's been nominated for the Kenneth Branagh Award.

What the reviewers said

We have captured 4 published reviews and 49 audience reviews for this show from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s own listing. The excerpts below are the reviewers’ words, not ours — follow each link for the full review.

  • Did you ever wonder what happened to The Famous Five? Well, in Rachel E. Thorn’s play A Simply Beastly Murder, you can (unofficially) find out!

    West End Best Friend

  • Rachel E. Thorn gives us this new play, A Simply Beastly Murder. It riffs on the idea that the Famous Five have grown up and one of their own left to become a grizzled detective.

    A Youngish Perspective

  • ‘A Simply Beastly Murder’ is a tightly scripted, slickly performed, light-hearted parody which would adapt beautifully from the stage to a BBC Radio play. Simply spiffing.!
